Dr. Paul Sampson
Dr. Paul Sampson founded Dakota Vision Center in 1991. He brings years of experience to the Dakota Vision Center team along with a wonderful chair-side manner, demonstrating his enjoyment in caring for his patients. A sincere interest and concern for his patients has fostered many wonderful relationships through the years.
Dr. Sampson was raised in Flandreau, SD, attended the University of SD and received his Doctorate of Optometry degree from Illinois College of Optometry. He is a member of both the South Dakota Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association.
In his free time, Dr. Sampson enjoys golfing, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren.Request An Appointment
Dr. Vance Ankrum
Dr. Vance Ankrum joined Dakota Vision Center in 1994. Originally from Highmore, SD, Dr. Ankrum attended Colorado State University and South Dakota State University. After obtaining his Doctorate of Optometry degree from Pacific University, he returned to Sioux Falls, SD to begin his optometric career. In addition to providing his patients with comprehensive eye exams and contact lens evaluations, Dr. Ankrum has a special interest in ocular disease detection and treatment.
A member of the South Dakota Optometric Society and the American Optometric Society, Dr. Ankrum enjoys keeping abreast of the current events surrounding health care issues as they relate to optometry.

Dr. Rob Haeder
Dr. Rob Haeder, known for his confident and easy going personality, joined the Dakota Vision Center team in 1996. Committed to improving the quality of patients’ lives by enhancing their vision is a cornerstone of Dr. Haeder’s practice. While providing comprehensive optometric care, you can be assured that Dr. Haeder will always take the time to answer any and all questions you may have regarding your vision.
A member of the South Dakota Optometric Society and the American Optometric Society, Dr. Haeder has also served on the Board of the South Dakota Optometric Society. After attending South Dakota State University, Dr. Haeder received his Doctorate of Optometry degree at Illinois College of Optometry.
Growing up in Wosley, SD pheasant hunting was and still is an enjoyable part of Dr. Haeder's life. Spending time with his family and golfing also fulfill Dr. Haeder's free time.Request An Appointment
Dr. Jeffrey Oakland
Dr. Jeffrey Oakland joined Dakota Vision Center in 2011. Dr. Oakland was born and raised in Sioux Falls; upon graduation from Augustana University, Dr. Oakland received his Doctorate of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry. He continued his education by completing a residency in Pediatric/Binocular Vision at Illinois College of Optometry. Dr. Oakland practices full-scope optometry with an emphasis in pediatrics and vision therapy.
After joining Dakota Vision Center, Dr. Oakland created and developed the Center for Visual Learning, Dakota Vision’s vision therapy clinic. He thoroughly enjoys spending his days helping patients improve and enhance vision and vision information processing skills.
Dr. Oakland is a member of the South Dakota Optometric Society, American Optometric Association, College of Optometrists in Vision Development, and the Optometric Extension Program. He is also an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Pediatric Department at the University of South Dakota’s School of Medicine.
In his spare time you will find Dr. Oakland spending time with his wife and two kids. He enjoys music, traveling, and watching college athletics.Request An Appointment
Dr. Joel Quist
Dr. Joel Quist is the newest member of the optometric team at Dakota Vision Center, joining in 2016. Dr. Quist practices primary care optometry with a special interest in custom contact lens fittings and ocular disease management. Prior to his work at Dakota Vision Center, he practiced for five years in the Omaha, Ne area in both a corporate and private practice setting.
Dr. Quist received his Doctorate of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry, Biology degree from Augustana University, and high school diploma from Pipestone (MN) Area Schools. Following Optometry School he was awarded Fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO).
As a member of the South Dakota Optometric Society, American Optometric Association, and American Academy of Optometry, Dr. Quist is committed to the premise that learning is a lifelong obligation of a professional. Through staying current in the latest eye-related research, he is dedicated to enhancing patient care and constantly strives for the highest professional standards.
Dr. Quist has compassion for his patients and continually seeks to establish a lasting relationship with each of them in order to understand their evolving eye care needs.
