Periodic eye examinations are an important part of routine preventive health care. Many eye and vision condtions have no obvious symptoms so indivduals are often unaware of a problem. The need for an eye examination varies with an individual's age, medical & family history, occupation, and other lifestyle factors.

Below are some frequency guidelines for regular eye examinations, but remember it is best to ask
your eyecare practioner how often you should have your eyes examined.

  • Toddlers - 3 years to pre-school this is a good time for a first time visit
  • School Age - school-age children - every 1-2 years
  • Adolescense to Adulthood - 18 years to age 50 - every 2 years, after age 50 - yearly
  • Contact Lens Wearers - Individuals who wear contact lenses should have their eye examined yearly.
